Work at Home – Endless Possibilities

Are you looking for a legitimate work at home opportunity? Not sure where to begin?

Three years ago, I spend a lot of time researching all kinds of legitimate work at home opportunities. I was amazed by all options that are available. These options do not involve scams or settling for multi level marketing, selling other company’s products or services that does not resonate with you.

“What I found is that there are 3 options for working from home. Want to find out what they are?”

Option 1: Convince Your Current Boss To Let You Work From Home

In this option, the goal is to keep your current job where you work from home, instead of at the office. The key to successfully convincing your boss to let you work remotely is to present a well thought out written proposal.

In your written proposal, make sure that you clearly communicate to your boss that you care about the best interest of your employer just as much as your need to work from home.  In your work at home proposal, outline all the projects you are responsible for with their due dates. You also want to include key milestones and a timeline for achieving them.

You also need to persuade your boss that you’ll be easy to reach in case she/he needs to immediately reach you. Your written proposal should also include a communication plan for how you’ll interact with your boss and co-workers.

Option 2: Work at Home for an Employer

There are several legitimate websites for finding work at home jobs depending on what you specialize in. For instance, if you are a writer, there are websites featuring companies that want to hire bloggers. Some of the jobs pay anywhere from $8 to $50 per hour.

In my opinion, HireMyMom.com, Flexjobs.com, and Virtual Vocations are the best resources for finding a variety of work at home jobs, whether full-time, part-time, or contract work. Flexjob.com and Virtual Vocations are ideal if you are seeking part-time or full-time work with predictable number of weekly hours. If you are comfortable with working part-time or on an as-needed basis, HireMyMom.com is your best option.  All these websites require a small fee which is well worth the expense, as you don’t have to worry about the various work at home scams that look like legitimate job offerings. The average monthly fee is $10.

Keep in kind that applying for work at home jobs via these sites are highly competitive. When drafting your cover letters and proposals, clearly specify your unique qualities and professional experience that makes you a great fit for the company. Share any specific quantifiable successes that you had, such as 40% increase in Facebook engagement for a client who commissioned your social media services, 10% increase in revenue after a client implemented your marketing strategy, etc.

Option 3: Running Your Very Own Business

Thanks to the Internet you can start your very own business for a minimum investment of a few hundred dollars. You need to have a business idea to create a product or service to promote and sell.

Examples of home-based businesses include:

  • Selling products like calendars, jewelry, make-up, clothes, art, etc. in Etsy
  • Professional services like Quickbooks, social media consulting, HR services, etc.
  • Virtual Assistant business

Starting a business involves completing a series of initial actions to lay the foundation for a successful enterprise. Some of these activities include:
